Cairns Shaves the Day
The Commanding Officer of HMAS Cairns walked the talk recently after encouraging his ship’s company to dye or shave their locks for a great cause.
Commander Carl Capper and the crew of Cairns raised in excess of $3,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation in support of the World’s Greatest Shave.
“Massive gratitude goes out to the organisers of the event and the staff of HMAS Cairns for supporting this noble cause,” he said.
Navy Canteens also supported the ship’s efforts by providing morning tea for the hungry sailors. Donations received to the enjoy the culinary delights contributed to the overall funds raised for the World’s Greatest Shave.
Annette Jarret from the Leukaemia Foundation visited Cairns to support the event and passed on her thanks from the foundation. All money raised helps families facing blood cancer and enables the Leukaemia Foundation to provide the emotional and practical support they need.
The donations will also help fund vital research so more people survive blood cancers like lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma.
